Description
Here is how the author describes his layout design:
"I will be retiring soon and this is the size of the layout that will fit in the spare bedroom where we will be living.
The bedroom size is 10'3" by 11'. There will be a liftout bridge section by the entrance door. Its not based on any specific time era or location. Not even sure yet what motive power I will use.
I designed it so a train can run the outer loop counter-clockwise, while a local runs the inner loop clockwise to work the industries. If I just want to watch a train go round, I can set up the crossover to make a continuous connection from inner to outer.
Some features that I wanted to incorporate include tracks running down the middle of the street through the town, a horse farm, a dog park, several large industries that take a variety of freight cars and, of course, a continuous loop. Its also a sit down layout so its height will only be 32" off the floor. More comfortable for me.
I will be using Atlas Code 83 track and Micro Engineering Code 83 turnouts with spring loaded points. As this is a small layout with turnouts close to the edge I can simply use my finger to throw the points."
