Model Train Layouts & Track Plans

Home Small HO-scale Layout #2 - Complex Ovals

This is a ready-to-build example track plan #2 of a series of several micro sized HO-scale layouts, created with SCARM by Petar Ploskov. All these plans are really "micro" for HO (1:87) scale and are suitable for houses and flats where space is limited.

This layout consists of three mixed ovals with train station and two cargo areas. Depending of the setting of double slip crossing point, you can have a two independent lines for two trains, running together at the same time or one long route for a single train, passing nonstop from one oval to another. The plan is based on PIKO sectional track pieces, allowing easy assembling and disassembling if there is no option for creating a permanent layout. It allows analog or digital operation of one or two short trains with continuous running or shunting. However, the small size of the layout is not suitable for running of modern long freight and passenger trains with long 4-axle coaches, but even these are able to pass, with a loco and two or three cars.

• Max. train length: 950mm (37.4") / 600mm (23.6") in cargo areas
• Max. number of trains on the layout: 4 (requiring insulated sections for analog operation)
• Max. simultaneously running trains: 2
